On November 22nd, 2014 the Friends of the Andy Ausonio Library Castroville Branch of the Monterey County Free Libraries celebrated 100 years serving the community. Staff members, librarians, volunteers, sponsors, and the Friends of the Andy Ausonio Library hosted the celebration.
Indoor Games included pin the tail on the burro, toss the bean bag, frog leap, and indoor darts.
The Monterey County Free Libraries mascot, Monte remained home in Prunedale because of stormy weather.
Su Cheterman and Alice Sullivan volunteered to face paint. Children and adults selected patterns they wanted to have painted on their cheeks. Within minutes, an unique work of art was created.
The Book Mobile was parked in front of the library, drew a crowd of curious minds.
The Mother’s Club presented three scrapbooks filled with photographs and newspaper articles of events that occurred over the decades. Fashion shows, luncheons, and other fundraisers were made possible by the countless years of volunteerism. The Mother’s Club raised funds to fill the shelves with the first books in the local libraries of elementary schools such as Gambetta, Castroville, Elkhorn, Echo Valley, Moss Landing, and Prunedale.
